Berkeley County 4H Shooting Sports is a 4-H sponsored club established to spur children’s enthusiasm for archery and rifle sports in a fun and safe manner. Membership in BC4HSS is open to any child providing that they are 9 years of age and/or in the 3rd grade by October 1st. We meet every 2 weeks to learn about bow and rifle safety and practice our technique. Members are encouraged to represent our club in local events and plan to attend regional meets starting this fall.
We gladly accept new members and are currently seeking adult volunteers to assist with the bi-weekly training and skill building sessions. We are also appreciative of any donations to assist us with our equipment and supply needs.
The goal of all 4-H programs is youth development. Decision making teamwork, problem solving, being responsible, and having high self-esteem are just a few of the many skills 4-H helps to develop to enable youth to be productive and positive adults in our society.
The West Virginia 4-H Shooting Sports (SS) Program encompasses the goals of volunteer leadership, capacity building for youth and families, and environmental stewardship. The program is designed to:
- Give youth thorough safe instruction and training in the use of firearms, archery
equipment, and wildlife conservation - Enhance self-confidence, personal development, responsibility, and
sportsmanship - Create an appreciation and understanding of natural resources
- Provide volunteer instructors safe and proper instructional techniques and information on how to plan and manage shooting and conservation clubs.
