Inclement Weather Policy

4hss_logoThis is a friendly reminder regarding Berkeley County 4-H Shooting Sports policy regarding inclement weather.

BC4HSS uses the Berkeley County School system as a guideline for deciding whether or not to hold a regularly scheduled practice session or business meeting. If Berkeley County Schools are closed due to inclement weather, BC4HSS will not hold practice that evening. This is to ensure the safety of the club members and their families.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please feel free to contact us.

And We Have A Winner!

Shane Herber of Hedgesville and his new Mission Menace

On Saturday, November 5th, Berkeley County 4-H Shooting Sports officers and leaders met at Middle Creek Archery for the 2011 Fundraiser drawing. Mrs. Christine Michael, owner of Middle Creek Archery did us the honor of randomly drawing the winning ticket from the roughly 560 tickets sold. The winning ticket was #242 which was purchased by Shane Herber of Hedgesville, WV. Shane was on-hand to collect his prize, the Mission Menace bow generously donated by Middle Creek Archery and Mathews, Inc.

All-in-all our Fall fundraiser was a huge success! The ticket sales and donations helped us to raise almost $995, just $5 short of our goal. These funds will allow BC4HSS to repair or replace our existing equipment as well as purchase new equipment to meet the growth of the club. As BC4HSS is offered free to the public, we rely on raffle proceeds and miscellaneous donations to allow us to continue providing this much needed service to Berkeley County youth.

We would like to thank Middle Creek Archery, Mathews Inc., and everyone who supported us through tickets purchases, donations, and good old hard work to make this fundraiser a huge success.

Winner Shane Herber and Christine Michael, owner of Middle Creek

Looking for Volunteers and Alternate Practice Locations

Berkeley County 4-H Shooting Sports needs your help!

We are currently seeking adult volunteers to assist BC4HSS instructors with practices. We need both assistance on an occasional basis as well as need individuals who are interested in becoming a 4-H certified shooting sports instructor to allow our group to expand into new areas of 4-H Sooting Sports disciplines.

In addition to new instructors, BC4HSS is looking for alternate locations to hold practice sessions. We have limited access to the current location and are in need of a location that will allow us to hold normally scheduled practices with fewer restrictions.

Last  (but not least), we are always in need of new equipment. If you have shooting sports equipment to donate or would like to assist us in acquiring new equipment, please contact us. BC4HSS is a 501C non-profit organization and your donation may be tax deductible.

Thank you for your continued support!

Extra Practices

Based on a decision made at the quarterly business meeting on March 31st, Berkeley County 4-H Shooting Sports will begin meeting every Wednesday for practice beginning April 7th based on active participation. In accordance with the club’s by-laws, our meetings occur on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The club members and the leaders agreed that we can start holding addition practices on the weeks in between, but is dependant on member participation and the availability of the instructors.

Unless otherwise stated, the practices will be held at 6PM at the Back Creek Valley Bow and Gun Club.

Photos from January 20th Meeting and a Special Guest

Last night Berkeley County 4-H Shooting Sports hosted a special event at the Back Creek Valley Bow and Gun Club. We were not only honored to play host to one of our fellow 4-H Shooting Sports clubs, but also to have a guest speaker, Captain Rodney Jenkins of the All Guard Rifle Team. The Shenandoah 4-H Shooting Sports club drove from the Woodstock, Virginia area to meet Capt. Jenkins who spoke to the kids and leaders alike on gun safety and his experiences as a world class competitive shooter.

Capt. Jenkins, who is currently ranked as a “High Master” – the NRA top ranking for a competitive shooter, was also kind enough to talk about the specialized equipment used in matches and while training. Later in the evening, after wrapping his talk which included tips on training and safety, Capt. Jenkins allowed the kids to try out a computer-based training simulator which he uses to prepare for shooting events.

Photos from December 16th Rifle Practice

We had another banner turnout for air rifle practice again this week at the Back Creek Valley Bow and Gun Club. Keith and Dickie worked with the kids honing the prone position and a good time was had by all.
